St. John’s Seminary, Camarillo, CA Distinguished Alumnae Clip

CAMARILLO, Calif. (Aug 25, 2011) — St. John’s Seminary honored five long time Catholic leaders as St. John Seminary’s 2011 Distinguished Alumni at its Fourth Annual Distinguished Alumni Dinner on Sunday, September 25 at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo.

Alumni include Cardinal Roger M. Mahony, Archbishop Emeritus of Los Angeles; Father Michael P. McCullough, Chaplain of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and Founder of the Desert Refuge for Peace Officers; Monsignor Peter D. Nugent, Pastor Emeritus at St. John Eudes Parish in Chatsworth and former pastor of Santa Clara Parish in Oxnard; Mr. Christopher A. Redondo, retired Faculty Member at Chaminade College Preparatory School and Parishioner at St. Peter Claver Parish in Simi Valley; and Monsignor Patrick G. Thompson, Pastor Emeritus of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish in Lomita.

These alumni are recognized for their many years of service to the communities in which they have ministered and for their dedication to Christ and the Church, says Monsignor Craig Cox, Rector and President of St. John’s.

“This is our fourth annual Distinguished Alumni Dinner at St. John’s and we are very pleased to welcome these very distinguished servants of the gospel back to our campus to share a special evening with their families, friends, and the seminary community,” says Msgr. Cox. “Their lives model for our seminarians a profound dedication to Christ and the Church, a vision of living out our baptismal and priestly vocations. We are looking forward to honoring them and many more of our exceptional alumni in the future.”

The evening included Solemn Vespers in the beautiful chapel dedicated to St. John the Evangelist, a wine tasting reception, a silent auction, and a dinner in St. John’s Refectory. All proceeds from the auction and dinner benefit St. John’s Seminary.

Father Mike McCullough says that he’s privileged to serve those in law enforcement who serve us. “This award brings recognition to the men and women serving us in law enforcement. This honor from St. John’s Seminary also brings honor to them. They deserve our gratitude,” Father McCullough says. He has been a responder to numerous disasters, including the Word Trade Center in New York following the 9/11 attacks. At the dinner, Assistant LAPD Chief Sandy Jo MacArthur will present Fr. McCullough on behalf of LAPD Chief of Police Charlie Beck.
